Art in Esperance

Esperance has a thriving arts and culture scene - and the locals just love to share their creations with visitors! There are numerous studios, art galleries and artists that call this gorgeous coastal town home. Taking home some local art can be a great way to remember this trip or a thoughtful gift for loved ones.

Located on the beautiful Esperance foreshore, the Cannery Arts Centre was built originally to be used as a Fish Cannery in 1949. After serving as a car yard, a dance hall and a youth centre it was renovated in 1984 to its present state. It is now a vibrant community arts centre delivering exhibitions, and workshops to the Esperance region and its visitors. Always evolving, always changing it’s worth popping in to have a look. You might discover a hidden talent or passion for something new!

Esperance Community Arts facilitates and contributes to a variety of programs and projects throughout the region that aim to increase participation in the arts by supporting individuals and groups to work together. ECA has a workshop & exhibition space, and a gift shop located at 67 Dempster Street where they promote the work of local artists and community groups.

Experience 'The Art of Glass' and visit the Cindy Poole: Glass Gallery, Working Studio & Cafe, only 5 minutes from town. The adjoining studio space provides a snapshot of the varied applications of art glass and how sheets of glass are transformed through the diverse techniques of both warm & cold-worked glass. Whilst visiting take time to nestle inside over a cuppa and absorb the art or relax outside in the secluded pallet garden and take in the outdoor artworks.

Boasting unique works of art and craft, the Esperance Nyungar Aboriginal Corporation Art & Craft Gallery showcases indigenous pieces inspired by the often contrasting and colourful region of Esperance. Located on Wood Street, The shop caters to a diverse customer need with sculptures, hand braided rugs, glassware, paintings and boomerangs.

For the last 18 years Geoff Smith, painting under the name of Speedline Art, has been creating a variety of art including seascape, mariner, surf and rustic rural scenes using acrylics, oils and inks on canvas. Having spent the last 35 years riding waves, much of his work is influenced by the ocean, dolphins, whales and isolated coastal themes. Born and raised in the mallee country and having a love for the Nullabour environment has also influenced many of his rustic rural scenes. Geoff is also accomplished with an airbrush which has resulted in many unique surfboard designs.

White Sands Gallery is Esperance's premier photo gallery & gift shop featuring stunning landscapes by Sally Nevin & Gary Alan plus other local artists. Their photographs are printed and framed locally at their home studio by Gary - each one is hand-signed. You’ll find them in the Museum Village.

Karnpi Designs is an Indigenous-owned and run business. Their goal is to create pride through Indigenous cultural knowledge by creating a platform through artistic stories with a sense of empowerment and determination. If you have ever wanted to expand your knowledge of Indigenous culture, we highly recommend stopping by.

The Baxter and Maree Art Gallery showcases the artwork Tammy Andrews, an established Esperance artist. With over 15 years of consistent painting, Tammy's work has developed a unique style, which has been described as having ‘poetic serene quality’. Oils are Tammy's chosen medium because she loves the sensual quality of the paint and its ability to be sculptured into form. Original paintings and prints are available to buy at Baxter and Maree.
